SQL LRS is the world’s most installed Apache 2.0 Learning Record Store.
Making learning experience business-ready.
In 2015, we released the first commercial LRS to pass ADL’s xAPI LRS Test Suite.
In 2021, we changed the game by releasing SQL LRS — the learning record store built for business.
SQL LRS was built for real-world xAPI.
It is deployable anywhere including: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and in on-prem and mobile environments.
It is built on SQL. It launches with your choice of Postgres or SQLite. This means you can directly query the LRS’s underlying database using SQL. It also means you can plug-and-play with any Postgres-ready tool including: Google Looker, Microsoft Power BI, Salesforce and Tableau, Superset and Preset.
It is completely open source, with no restrictions (even for commercial usage).
It provides full access to your data whenever and wherever you want it.
It is demonstrably secure — having attained Certification to Field on US Air Force’s Platform One.
And… it features xAPI Reactions — the revolutionary ability to program the LRS to issue new xAPI statements with SQL LRS based on the patterns of statements it receives (let your mind go wild with this one…).
What we learned from our customers…
After several years of research and development and the production of a variety of types of Learning Record Store — including the first commercial offering to pass the 1,300 assessments of the ADL LRS Test Suite way back in 2015 — we designed an LRS that would meet not just the technical demands but the business demands of enterprise users in the quickly maturing space of learning data.
Enterprise customers did not want dashboards — they already had BI tools and data vis capabilities purchased from the big tech giants. They did not need us to produce analytics for them — they already had super smart teams to do that. What they wanted was a simple and massively scalable LRS that could plug into their existing business intelligence ecosystem without the hassle of custom integrations and complex licensing arrangements.
And so, we delivered SQL LRS.
Deploy it anywhere. Plug it into anything. It’s entirely open source and built for (and tested by) the most demanding organizations on the planet.
We’ve heard all of the problems people have with LRSs
They force you to put your data in their cloud environment. They offer dashboards that are redundant with tools a company already has… and then makes you pay a premium for them. They let you query data, but only in formats and languages completely foreign to most business users. The licensing structures are at complete odds with the standards-based federated approaches that all the power users advocate for. And, in the case of LRSs that come packaged with LMSs, they don’t give you access to your own data.
For these reasons and more, we built SQL LRS.
FAQs
Where is SQL LRS available?
Get the latest release on Github or DockerHub. US Federal Government users can access SQL LRS on Platform One’s Iron Bank. For access to the version Certified to Field, reach out to ADL or contact us.
Do you host SQL LRS ?
Nope. It’s designed for our customers to host wherever they need to. That way you always have control over and access to your data.
How do I…?
Technical Documentation is available here. Includes Basic Config, setting up TLS/HTTPS & Auth, OpenID Connect Support and an example AWS CloudFormation template.
Do you offer implementation and support?
Implementation and support services contracts are available for any sized deployment. Contact us for a quote.
Can I use SQL LRS in a commercial project?
Absolutely. In fact, we encourage it. SQL LRS is available under the Apache 2.0 license. If you are interested in an official white-label partnership (including support), please get in touch.
Is SQL LRS conformant with IEEE 9274.1.1?
Good question. Yes. We were contributors to the IEEE standard and built SQL LRS to be in complete conformance.
